چکیده

Background Autopsy studies report a cardiac involvement in sarcoidosis as high as 20-60%. Clinically a much lower detection rate of approximately 5% has been reported. Since cardiac events are the second most frequent cause of death, a high rate of undetected cases of cardiac involvement can be presumed, potentially leading to a fatal event as the fist manifestation. Previous studies have shown the superiority of CMR to detect cardiac involvement in sarcoidosis compared to other imaging modalities or clinical scores. We aimed at investigating the prevalence of previously unknown cardiac involvement in sarcoidosis in a caucasian population.

The Utility of Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging in the Diagnosis of Cardiac Sarcoidosis.

BACKGROUND Autopsy reports suggest that cardiac sarcoidosis occurs in 20 to 25% of patients with pulmonary sarcoidosis, yet the clinical ante-mortem diagnosis is made in only 5% of cases. Current diagnostic algorithms are complex and lack sensitivity. Cardiac Magnetic Resonance imaging (CMR) provides an opportunity to detect myocardial involvement in sarcoidosis. The aim of this study is to det...

Detection of myocardial damage in patients with sarcoidosis.

BACKGROUND In patients with sarcoidosis, sudden death is a leading cause of mortality, which may represent unrecognized cardiac involvement. Delayed-enhancement cardiovascular magnetic resonance (DE-CMR) can detect minute amounts of myocardial damage. We sought to compare DE-CMR with standard clinical evaluation for the identification of cardiac involvement. METHODS AND RESULTS Eighty-one con...

Prevalence of cardiac sarcoidosis in white population: a case–control study

Cardiac sarcoidosis (CS) is a life-threatening and underdiagnosed manifestation of the disease, which requires a complicated and expensive diagnostic pathway. There is a need for simple tool for practitioners to determine the risk of CS without access to specialized equipment. The aim of study was to determine the prevalence of CS in a group of patients diagnosed with or followed up because of s...

The additional value of gadolinium-enhanced MRI to standard assessment for cardiac involvement in patients with pulmonary sarcoidosis.

AIM To determine whether gadolinium-enhanced cardiac MRI (CMR) was of additional diagnostic value to standard assessment in patients with sarcoidosis who underwent evaluation for cardiac involvement. METHODS We reviewed the findings in patients with pulmonary sarcoidosis who had been assessed with ECG, Doppler echocardiography, 201Tl scintigraphy, and CMR from 2002 to 2004. RESULTS Of the 5...

Cardiovascular magnetic resonance-guided diagnosis of cardiac affection in a Caucasian sarcoidosis population.

BACKGROUND Clinically evidenced cardiac involvement in systemic sarcoidosis occurs in approximately 5% of patients, whereas post-mortem examinations identify cardiac sarcoidosis in over 60% of cases. OBJECTIVE Given the inconsistency of diagnostic approaches, we took aim at prospectively investigating the prevalence of cardiac sarcoidosis by cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) in a primar...
